SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Heaven pity the man who is unconscious of a fault! Pity him also who is ignorant of his ignorance! Neither is on the road to salvation.
by David O McKay

Blindness of mind and heart has often been condemned in scripture. "Wo unto the blind that will not see: for they shall perish" (1 Nephi 9:32) Akin to hardness of heart, blindness of mind is self-deception of the worst kind (1 Nephi 7:8) Those who are puffed up cannot see their own weakness; their blindness closes them to humilty and meekness, charity and integrity. Most often, the blind are arrogant, self-righteous, and self betrayed. Blindness can come from looking beyond the mark for something grand and glorious and thereby missing the sweet simplicity of the gospel of Jesus Christ (Jacob 4:14). Blindness can also come when we give ourselves so much to the world that the Spirit of the Lord can no longer whisper its still small voice of inspiration (Alma 10:25, 13:14). We must live truthfully and remember the promise that the adversary cannot blind us if we hold firmly to the iron rod (1 Nephi 15:24).
